Asian sea bass, Lates calcarifer (Bloch, 1790), is one of the most farmed marine fish in Malaysia since the 1970 s and is predominantly cultured at present.Although it has been farmed for some time, there is no systematic breeding programme in place.Local hatcheries rely heavily on wild and imported broodstock.However, imported stocks do not guarantee improved quality and even increase the chances of introducing pathogens into the country.

New Terms and Conditions of AFS Membership

Dear AFS Members,

New terms and conditions of AFS membership.

In its meeting on 19th April 2018, the AFS 12th Council has approved new terms and conditions for AFS membership to take effect on 20th April, 2018. There is a new provision to become a Permanent Active Member (PAM) by paying membership fee continuously for 15 years. The changes are as below:

New members:

For the members from Category 1 countries, in order to become a Permanent Active Member (PAM), the fee for new member is USD 250 (Yearly membership fee USD 15 x 15 years + USD 25 as joining fee).
For the members from Category 2 countries, in order to become a Permanent Active Member (PAM), the fee for new member is USD 410 (Yearly membership fee USD 25 x 15 years + USD 35 as joining fee).

Current members for Renewal:

Must have been active members with continuous full payment of membership dues for the past 15 years.
For those with unpaid years: Must pay the total cumulative unpaid membership fees plus any other balance in order to complete the required 15 years of continuous membership. The membership ID with photo will be provided only to the Permanent Active Members.
