Asian sea bass, Lates calcarifer (Bloch, 1790), is one of the most farmed marine fish in Malaysia since the 1970 s and is predominantly cultured at present.Although it has been farmed for some time, there is no systematic breeding programme in place.Local hatcheries rely heavily on wild and imported broodstock.However, imported stocks do not guarantee improved quality and even increase the chances of introducing pathogens into the country.

Call for nomination to the AFS 13th Council and Award Nomination 2019

Dear AFS Members,

UPDATE: The dateline for Call for nomination to the AFS 13th Council and Award Nomination 2019 will be extended till 28th February 2019.

This is to formally notify all AFS members and councilors that the 13th General Assembly (GA) of the Asian Fisheries Society will be held at on 10th April, 2019 (17.30-20.30 hrs) during the 12th Asian Fisheries & Aquaculture Forum, Iloilo City, Philippines. During the GA, councilors for the 13 th Council will be elected and confirmed.

Nominations for AFS members to serve on the 13th Council (2019-2022) are hereby invited. The Council normally comprises up to 15 members and 14 will be filled by election. Nominations shall be made in writing using the official AFS nomination form which is attached.

The nomination shall be accompanied by a brief biography of the candidate and shall be sent to me by email (preferable) or mail (to the AFS Secretariat) on or before the 31st January 2019. Not more than two persons from the same nationality or from one country or territory in the AsiaPacific will be elected to the Council at the same time.

Members are urged to give careful and considered thoughts to possible candidates and forward their nominations as soon as possible. Candidates should be prepared to serve the Society with both time and efforts, have well-established scientific career in his/her field of expertise and have the ability to access travel funds to attend the annual council meeting.
