MESSAGE FROM EDITOR

Wishing all readers a Very Happy and Productive 2019.

Year 2018 has been a hectic year for the Society with organisation of three major events: (i) International Symposium on Aquaculture and Fisheries Education hosted by the ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education in Mumbai in collaboration with the Indian Branch of AFS and the Indian Fisheries Association; (ii) 6th International Symposium on Cage Aquaculture (CAA6) jointly organised by Chulalongkorn University, National Science & Technology Development Agency and Songkla University in Thailand, and (iii) the 7th Global Conference on Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries jointly organised by the Gender in Fisheries and Aquaculture section of AFS., Asian Institute of Technology and Network of Aquaculture Centers in Asia, in Thailand. All these conferences were well attended by scientists, development workers, planners and administrators from many countries/regions as detailed in the previous and this issue of newsletter.

The Society having been established in 1984, will be completing 35 years in 2019 and will be befittingly celebrating the event along with 12th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum scheduled for April 2019 in the Philippines.

The fisheries sector has been in recent years receiving the attention of planners and administrators especially in Asian countries to meet the increasing demand. The Governments have also been allocating increased funding to the sector and the scientists and development workers in these countries have a major role to play in sustainably increasing production and creating livelihoods. In all these activities the Society can play a major role.

The newsletter also gives details of upcoming conferences related to fisheries and aquaculture.
